The best lesbian movies and series on Netflix 2024

Searching for lesbian movies or series on streaming services is often exhausting. Once you’ve chosen something to watch, you often realize that the film or series in question is full of Hollywood clichés or is too dull. So, let us do the work for you! Also, Netflix’s offering in the LGBTQ+ area is vast.

Carol

Based on Patricia Highsmith’s book “The Price of Salt,” this romance starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara is an instant lesbian classic. Lush costumes, sets, and cinematography, along with quiet dialogues, create a low-key art-house vibe.

Below Her Mouth

The erotic encounter between a woman and an experienced lesbian results in her questioning her sexuality and engagement to a man. It seems people either love or hate this film, but it’s certainly one of the sexiest lesbian films out there, with plenty of eye candy for the female gaze.

Sense8

The series revolves around eight people from around the world who suddenly become mentally linked, allowing them to share sensory perceptions, skills, and feelings with each other and visit each other. These eight “sensates” form a cluster together. In addition to the storyline about the sensates and BPO, the series also addresses social issues such as LGBT+ rights and sexism, as well as forming one’s own identity, religious experience, and sexual orientation.

Orange Is the New Black

Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) is sentenced to 15 months in prison for transporting drug money for Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), an international drug smuggler and former lover. Chapman trades her comfortable life in New York for an orange jumpsuit. In the women’s prison, she encounters struggle and camaraderie within a remarkable group of inmates.

You Me Her

You Me Her begins with an impulsive date between Jack, a suburban husband, and escort girl Izzy. But this date turns into a sexual threesome relationship between Jack, Izzy, and Jack’s wife Emma, who turns out to have her own secrets. During these ten days, this romance develops into something serious. But it gets complicated. Very complicated.

Jane the Virgin

Not a movie, but worth watching. This is an American comedy series on Netflix. It’s about the life of Jane. The story revolves around her and her promise to remain a virgin until marriage. She accidentally gets pregnant. But without having had sex. She was accidentally inseminated. Oops! Still, a baby. This series is groundbreaking and therefore very non-American. If you’re looking for lesbian action, you’ll have to wait until the season, but with this series, that’s definitely not a punishment.

Ratched

Another series on the list, something Netflix is known for. This series revolves around asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. The series is set in 1947. She is an extremely polite nurse. At least, that’s what she seems like from the outside. A series with a beautiful lesbian romance, but also darkness and disturbing experiments on patients.

Blue Is the Warmest Colour

This film is the winner of the renowned Palme d’Or. It’s a beautifully poignant story about two young women falling in love. The reason it won awards is because it’s probably the most controversial and therefore famous lesbian film ever made. It includes a 10-minute long sex scene.

Blush

We also see films being made for the lesbian population in Israel. This film is quite dark and is about a young woman who falls in love with a classmate. It starts like many loves with carefree moments. But soon the relationship becomes tense and social prejudices arise. It’s mainly the controversial parents who hinder the relationship. This makes it impossible for them to continue seeing each other in public.
