It is World Rhinoceros Day today. Many of us can't directly help in the effort to save them, but indirectly we can: the political parties you vote for, your carbon "footprint", the causes you support by donating time or money ... all these things matter in shaping what happens on this planet.

Lizard Island: paradise.
The large number of these guys led Captain Cook to call this island Lizard Island when he sailed here in 1770 looking for a way out of the treacherous maze that is the Great Barrier Reef. From the top of the island's only hill he found his ship's passage to safety. Today it is a national park in the middle of a marine park, with some of the most beautiful coral and giant clam gardens you could hope to find.
